Services
The services we offer consist of four pillars:
Educational Assessment & Learning Profile
Academic assessment and creation of an Individualized Learning Profile with a written 3-6 month learning plan.
Weekly Tutoring Sessions
55 minute sessions conducted in the home or the local library.
Parent Facing Educational Consultation
Strategies for supporting your child’s learning at home.
School Advocacy Meetings
Meeting with your student’s teachers, administration, and/or school support staff to support your student needs.
Individualized Learning Profiles
Every family at DiG receives an individualized learning profile (ILP).
An ILP is a comprehensive assessment of your student as a learner. It combines observations, conversations, academic exploration, and research-informed assessment tools to create a detailed picture of how your child learns best.
The profile identifies:
Strengths and areas of growth
Academic skills and content knowledge
Motivation and interests
Executive functioning skills
Relationship to school and learning
Confidence and self-perception
Short and long-term goals
Helpful methods & approaches to avoid when working with a particular student
The ILP serves as a roadmap for our work together and helps ensure that every tutoring session is aligned with your student's unique needs. ILPs are always shared with parents and can be sent to teachers upon request.
The ILP was developed by Jo DiGennaro through her graduate work in Educational Psychology and years of studying motivation, belonging, and learning. It is one of the core tools that makes the DiG approach unique.
Consistency & Cancellation
Consistency is an important part of your students' progress. That said, we know things come up. We accommodate two, uncharged cancellations per calendar year. After this, we charge the full amount. Up to two sessions can be rescheduled during our make-up weeks in December and May.
Our Goal
Over time, we want students to:
approach challenges with greater confidence and resilence
work more independently
develop stronger learning habits
understand how they learn best
take ownership of their education
experience more curiosity and less anxiety around school
Additionally, DiG parents often report less conflict around school, greater clarity about how to support their child, and increased confidence that their student is moving in the right direction.
Academic growth matters, and we see plenty of it. But our ultimate goal is to help students become capable, self-directed learners who can thrive long after tutoring ends.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Tutoring with DiG goes beyond homework help. We help students become more confident, capable, and curious learners. We teach students about how learning works, normalize challenge and effort, and help them understand what to do when they get stuck. When a student is struggling, we work alongside them to identify gaps, understand what’s getting in the way, and develop strategies that actually work for them. Our approach is rooted in Self-Determination Theory: we intentionally build students’ sense of autonomy, competence, and connection so they can take greater ownership of their learning.
-
Yes. Every DiG student receives an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) designed to support their unique learning journey. The ILP identifies strengths, areas for growth, learning goals, and strategies that help the student succeed. It can be shared with the student’s learning team (tutors, teachers, and parents) to create a more consistent, cohesive approach to their learning.

Session rates vary depending on the tutor you work with and reflect each tutor’s level of education, training, and professional experience. Every DiG tutor is carefully selected and qualified to support students through the learning process. We consider your student’s needs, goals, and personality when recommending the best fit for your family.
